FAQs About PADI Scuba Diver Course
Here are the most common questions we get from divers, snorkelers, and guests before booking scuba diving in Pattaya and Samaesan with Jomtien Dive Center.
What is the PADI Scuba Diver course?
How long does the PADI Scuba Diver course take?
At Jomtien Dive Center, the course is normally completed over two days. Day one includes orientation and pool training, while day two includes two ocean-training dives. PADI generally estimates that the course takes two to three days, depending on the schedule and how quickly the student completes the required training.
Who is the PADI Scuba Diver course for?
This course is suitable for complete beginners who have limited time, expect to dive mainly with a professional guide or are not yet ready to complete the full Open Water Diver course. It can also be a suitable option for children aged 10 or older who meet PADI’s course requirements.
What is the difference between PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver?
A PADI Scuba Diver certification includes three confined-water sessions and two open-water dives. Certified Scuba Divers may dive to 12 metres/40 feet only under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional.
The Open Water Diver course includes five confined-water sessions and four open-water dives. Certified Open Water Divers may plan and make dives with another certified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres/60 feet, within the limits of their training and experience.
Can I upgrade from PADI Scuba Diver to Open Water Diver later?
Yes. Your completed training counts towards the Open Water Diver certification. To upgrade, you complete the remaining two knowledge-development sections, two confined-water sessions, two open-water dives, the required quiz and final exam, and the remaining surface-swimming assessment.
Do I need previous scuba-diving experience?
No previous scuba-diving experience or certification is required. To enrol, you must be at least 10 years old, have adequate swimming skills and meet the medical requirements for scuba diving.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but you must have adequate swimming ability and be comfortable in water too deep to stand. The PADI Scuba Diver course includes a 10-minute float or tread-water assessment.
Does the PADI Scuba Diver certification expire?
No. Your PADI certification does not expire. However, PADI recommends refreshing your knowledge and in-water skills through the ReActivate program if you have not been diving for some time.
Is scuba equipment included in the course price?
Yes. Jomtien Dive Center’s course information states that the basic scuba equipment used during training is provided, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator with dive gauge, buoyancy control device, tanks and weights.
