FAQs About Advanced Open Water Course in Pattaya
Here are the most common questions we get from divers, snorkelers, and guests before booking scuba diving in Pattaya and Samaesan with Jomtien Dive Center.
What is the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course?
What Is PADI?
PADI stands for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. It is an international diver-training organisation that develops scuba-diving courses, educational materials and certification standards used by dive centres and instructors around the world. Completing a PADI Advanced Open Water course earns you a PADI certification that is widely recognised by dive operators internationally.
What is the difference between Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver?
The PADI Advanced open water course includes five Adventure Dives, while the PADI Adventure diver course includes only three. Advanced Open Water must include Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation, plus three Adventure Dives chosen with your instructor.
Do I need lots of diving experience before joining?
No. You can start the PADI Advanced open water course as soon as you have an Open Water Diver certification. You do not need dozens of logged dives, and many people take it soon after learning scuba diving in pattaya.
How many logged dives do I need before starting?
There is no extra logged-dive requirement for the PADI Advanced open water course. You only need a qualifying Open Water certification and to be fit to dive. A Padi dive center in Pattaya will check your certification before the course begins.
How long does the course take in Pattaya?
The PADI Advanced open water course normally takes two days and includes five ocean dives. The exact schedule can change depending on weather, boat times, and which PADI courses in Pattaya are running during your visit.
Which dives are required?
The PADI Advanced open water course must include a Deep Adventure Dive and an Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive. You then choose three more dives based on your interests and the options available for scuba diving in pattaya.
Can I choose my own Adventure Dives?
Yes. During the PADI Advanced open water course, you can talk with your instructor about which dives interest you most. The final choice depends on conditions, dive sites, instructor availability, and what your Padi dive center in Pattaya can safely offer.
Which Adventure Dives are best in Pattaya?
Wreck Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Fish Identification, and Underwater Photography are all good choices. The PADI Advanced open water course can be planned around your goals, and the PADI Adventure diver course is another option when you only have time for three dives.
Will I dive on a shipwreck during the course?
A wreck dive may be included in the PADI Advanced open water course, especially because Pattaya has several well-known wreck sites. However, no exact wreck can be guaranteed because conditions affect all scuba diving in pattaya.
How deep can I dive after the course?
After completing the PADI Advanced open water course, adult divers can dive to a maximum training limit of 30 metres or 100 feet. Divers who want training to 40 metres can continue with the Deep Diver Specialty through a Padi dive center in Pattaya.
What is the minimum age?
The minimum age for the full PADI Advanced open water course certification is 15. Divers aged 12 to 14 can earn Junior Advanced Open Water Diver, while younger divers may qualify for the PADI Adventure diver course with age-related limits.
Is there a final exam?
There is no traditional final exam for the PADI Advanced open water course. You complete the learning sections for your chosen dives, but most of the course is practical and takes place in the water. This makes it different from some other PADI courses in Pattaya.
Does one wreck dive make me a certified wreck diver?
No. The wreck dive in the PADI Advanced open water course is only an introduction. It may count toward the Wreck Diver Specialty, but it does not give you the full specialty certification. The same rule applies to the wreck option in the PADI Adventure diver course.
Is a night dive always included?
No. Night Diving is optional and is not automatically included in the PADI Advanced open water course. It depends on the schedule, weather, instructor availability, and whether night scuba diving in pattaya is running on your course dates.
Does the certification expire?
No. Your PADI Advanced open water course certification does not expire. However, after a long break from diving, it is a good idea to complete a refresher with a Padi dive center in Pattaya before doing deeper or more challenging dives.
Is the course difficult?
The PADI Advanced open water course is designed to help you improve, not to test whether you are already an expert. Your instructor guides you through every dive, making it one of the most enjoyable PADI courses in Pattaya for newly certified divers.
Can I join with a certification from another diving organisation?
What can I take after Advanced Open Water?
After the PADI Advanced open water course, many divers continue with Rescue Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, or Peak Performance Buoyancy. These are some of the most useful PADI courses in Pattaya for building stronger skills and confidence.
